Goa Monsoon

June to September is considered as the monsoon season in Goa. Generally the tourists congregated here in peak season not in the monsoon. Monsoon comes with heavy rain with thunder and lightening in Goa. Rain variably changes from heavy rainfall to short spells of water. It is recommended to go for river fishing or trekking so you can remain active during this season. It is looks more green than ever in this season. Take a break from the busy schedule of the work and feel the strong blows of winds with the occasional showers that drenched you with joy. Enjoy the grey clouds with torrential showers with winds blowing along coastline. There is a dip in the temperature as compared to the sweltry months of April-May. This is the time to experience perfect Goan life with fewer local joints to eat out and lots of time to socialize with regulars and catch up with friends and acquaintances. Hotels provide special discount at this time so you can make the best of a quiet holiday. You can hear croak  of the frogs while going out on the laterite-red roads or driving out of the city. These laterite-red roads take you into villages before long. You would come across dimly-lit quaint houses with gardens surrounded by moss-covered walls and lime-washed churches. While you drive across the hilly terrain, enjoy the breathtaking view of the landscape. Peaceful and serene place, Goa is just perfect place for honeymooners. Monsoon is the festive time in Goa. It is a time to touch the roots for Goans. Most of the frequently visited places remain closed. Both Hindus and Christians take time to celebrate festivals traditionally. Sao Joao, the most fascinating festival, is celebrated around June-July. It is a Christian festival celebrated across several places in Goa, including Siolim(near Mapusa), Baga and Ribander near Panjim. Sao Joao is a festival to remember how st John the Bapist leapt in his mother’s womb when the latter met Virgin Mary, Groups of men also sail in colourful wooden rafts, known as sangodds. The festival is largely celebrated towards the end of June around Candolim in Bardez taluka. The festival is largely celebrate by fishermen (and women) in Goa, because St. Peter is said to be the patron saintof fisherfolk across the world. People sail in rafts upstream to reach the Chapel of St. Peter and are welcomed by fireworks on arrival. In the evening, plays and cultural programmes are organized. Another Christian festival towards the end of July is the Tauxeachem festival held in Talaulim. Talaulim is located near Panaji. This festival is for the newly weds to offer their respects to St. Anne. A minor Hindu festival of Chikhalkala is held at the Devki Krishna Temple in Marcela near Ponda. The area of the temple becomes muddy and slippery due to monsoon and it becomes a playground for villagers who rub oil all over them and jump into the clash, play in the mud and playing games that are believed to have been played once by Lord Krishna in his infant days. Another hindu festival during monsoon is Sapta festival celebrated at Damodar Temple in Vasco. Goa’s largest mela is organized on this occasion during monsoon season. Towards the end of the monsoon, the Christian festival of Konsachem is held in Raia. It is a harvest festival. Raia is situated on the borders of agricultural land along the Zuari River.
